Types Of Dog Show Results
There are a variety of reasons that dog owners spend hours, grooming and training their dog, drive hundreds of miles to attend a dog show, spend large sums of money on entry fees, and then anxiously wait for the dog show results before they go home.
The 4-H Dog Show
Some of the people who frequent dog shows are 4-H members who have decided that showing the family pet is a good way to pass the summer, many of these participants are eager to hear the dog show results because they know that the higher they place in a class they stand a better chance of collecting a monetary premium. Other’s hope to score high enough in the dog show results to qualify for the state 4-H dog show. The idea of the –H dog shows is to teach future dog owners how to care and raise dogs.
Local Fun Dog Shows
There seems to be no end to the towns and communities that put on dog show’s as part of a local celebration or event. Although you will sometimes find some 4-H members or the occasional breeder at these shows, you are more likely to find your neighbor who wants to show off how successful their dog obedience classes were. A look at the posted dog show results will show that many of the classes at the dog shows will show many classes such as hairiest dog, cutest dog, and smallest dog. The atmosphere at these local fun dog shows is typically cheerfully laid back.
Breed Promotion
With the exception of 4-H dog shows and local fun shows most dog shows are held with one purpose, to promote and reward dogs exhibiting the best characteristics of a breed. Dog breeders and owners take their dogs to compete at these shows knowing that an elevated standing in the dog show results will increase their dog’s value. A dog with a strong show record is a dog whose pups will be sought out by future dog owners. Breed associations award points based on the dog show results after each dog show, as a dog collects points it is allowed to compete in bigger, more exclusive dog shows. Dogs who compete to be recognized as the besting their breed are expected to have exemplary manners, a clean perfectly groomed coat, and strong obedience skills before they ever step onto the show grounds. Competitors at these shows take their dogs, and the dog show results, very seriously.
